Sunday Supper in the Vines

Blending community, family, and wine

At this year's Sunday Supper on October 8, you will have two special views while dining al fresco at Wooden Valley Winery & Vineyards in Suisun Valley.

Looking west, you will see the ridge of Rockville Trails Preserve, the 1,500-acre open space that the community rallied to protect. The other view (right next door) is of the farmhouse once occupied by Lena Lanza, the matriarch of Wooden Valley Winery. As a kid, Ron Lanza remembers his family going to “Nona’s” house for Sunday dinner, when she always made something a little special, like homemade gnocchi or ravioli.

Continue the line of tradition, and make memories of a new time and tradition at the Solano Land Trust Sunday Supper in the Vines. To commemorate this year’s supper, Wooden Valley Winery is supplying a red blend, called Old Oak Red, for Solano Land Trust to sell at the event. Graphic designer Dan DiVittorio, the man behind Solano Land Trust’s new office design, created the commemorative label.

“It’s a great wine, a great blend, and is in keeping with the Italian tradition,” says Ron Lanza, who with his brothers are heir to the historic winery that they run today.

Italians have always blended their table wines, says Lanza. This small-batch cuvée is 62 percent Barbera, the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy; twenty-six percent Petite Sirah, a varietal that provides tannin and complexity; and 12 percent Zinfandel, which is also known as Primitivo, a grape introduced in Italy in the 18th century. This is a perfect wine to represent the land trust, which also is a blending of people and land with a focus on finding the right balance for land conservation, which too can be complex.

The wine is just one good reason to join us. The event will also feature a scrumptious supper prepared by chef Daniel Bell and a live auction called by Joe Gates. Please join us to celebrate our close-knit and passionate community that loves open space and agriculture, a community that includes you.
